Species Name: Chaetodontoplus septentrionalis (Temminck & Schlegel, 1844)
Range: Western Pacific Ocean: Central Japan southward to Hong Kong
Size: up to 8 inches (20 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabit coastal rocky reefs, ledges and near caves, and collected at 15 to 60 foot depths (5 - 20 m)
General Husbandry: Prefer a temperature of 77 - 82°F (25 - 28°C) and natural diet consists mainly of crustaceans, sponges, tunicates and some algae. Need a varied diet and numerous feeding per day. Popular aquarium fish and does well in captivity, yet is becoming difficult to find. Females have bold blue fluorescent lines running the length of the body. Male has more subtle blue scribbles on the body with blue lines on the face.
