Common Name: Three-spot/Flag-Fin Angelfish

Species Name: Apolemichthys trimaculatus (Lacépède, 1831)


Range: Throughout the Indian Ocean and from Japan to Australia.


Size: up to 10 inches (25 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit outer coral reefs and heavy coral growth areas between 30 to 110 feet (10 - 35 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 77 - 82°F (25 - 28°C), with natural diet consisting mainly of algae and sponge. A difficult fish to feed in captivity. Requires a diet high in sponge matter, with some fortified brine shrimp, mysis, and flake food. Needs numerous feeding per day. Not suited for the reef environment. Probably better left in the wild unless you can give much attention to its diet.
