Damselfishes

These fishes belong in the "Order Perciformes" and "Suborder Labroidei" as members of the "Family Pomacentridae" (Damselfishes) consisting of 4 subfamilies, 28 genera, and 321 species.

Most damselfishes are extremely hardy, colorful, lively, and inexpensive. They are generally very territorial and will eat most foods. It is recommended they not be added to community aquariums until after all the more peaceful fishes have been placed into the system. I've attempted to show here as many as possible, including those not yet seen in the trade or rarely seen.

    Chromis

These are schooling and peaceful damselfishes, and basically an open water feeder. They should be kept in schools/shoals of three or more. Feed a varied diet a few times daily. Meaty foods such as vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, flake foods high in vegetable matter, and other quality frozen foods are the preferred foodstuffs.
