Wave 2K

A few years ago I met two gentlemen at a MACNA marine conference where they were demonstrating a new concept in water movement. The device, which is now called "Wave 2K" appeared to present a totally new and different concept when it came to moving water in closed systems. I've seen just about everything when it comes to generating water movement and/or making waves in the aquarium. Most direct alternating streams of water, however, Wave 2K actually provides repeated 'major' surges of water at both the upper and lower levels of the aquarium, which is especially useful in reef systems. And when Wave 2K is installed, there is no longer a need for powerheads, timers, extraneous plumbing and wires in the aquarium. Wave 2K is basically a simple device that lays flat against the inner side or back wall of flat-sided aquariums. A bracket connects the top of the wavemaker unit to the supplied self-cooling electrical motor, which drives its internal yet very simplified and efficient mechanism. And the external motor is not visible as its body is nicely hidden below the top outside edge of the aquarium.

If having a wave of water surge across the sandbed surface and then a few seconds later another wave surge across the surface of the aquarium is of interest, then Wave 2K is something you might want to checkout. Is it for everybody? Not really, as installation on acrylic aquariums can present some difficulties because of the wide collare around acrylic tank openings, and of course, it would not be feasible if the tank were cylinder-shaped. However, it is quite effective, and some public aquariums are now using them as it produces excellent results and reduces their involvement time-wise and cost-wise in this important aspect of aquarium husbandry.

A new product, the “ACCLIMATOR” has just been introduced. It allows for the acclimating of new fish and invertebrates in a 'Hang-On-Tank' enclosure where the speed of tank water entering and exiting the unit can easily be cont rolled by the hobbyist. Click 'here' to see two photos of the product.
