There are some companies that exceed when it comes to innovation, and ESV would certainly be one of them! I've known their owner Bob Stark for over ten years and his brother Richard for almost that long. We've met at many of the marine conferences, phoned and/or mailed each other to discuss hobby situations and products, and in general just chatted about everyday things.
ESV made their appearance in the aquarium product world by bringing to market the first commercial version of a two-part calcium & buffer product. Not only was it the first readily available two-part product, to the best of my knowledge it remains the best selling version among the other 'me too' copies of the product. In fact, when it comes to recommending two-part calcium and buffer products, I always list it among the best there is!
And for those reef aquarists who don't use a calcium reactor, the two-part calcium and buffer product is the way to supplement those parameters without impacting the system with the addition of individual calcium and buffer products. Far too often the addition of separate additives are not well thought out. Without a doubt, these two-part products provide a much better way to go. And those who follow my writings know exactly that, as I have always preached just that to thousands of hobbyists over the past decade.
Another one of their products that in my opinion separates them from many other companies is their activated carbon. Without a doubt the best I have ever used! It's the brand I have always stayed with and have recommended it to my clients and readers. And that's saying a lot! It's everything an activated carbon should be - the right size, shape, color, makes a hissing sound when getting wet, and is honestly labeled when it comes to phosphate, which is so low its non-detectable on the best test kits!
