Rob Toonen

Rob accomplished his undergraduate degree in Zoology at the University of Alberta, and his Masters Degree in Marine Biology at the University of North Carolina. He then went on to achieve his Ph.D. at the University of California in Davis. He is now a professor at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology on Coconut Island. Over the years, he has been involved in research on jellyfish, shrimp, lobsters, hard and soft corals, sponges, sea slugs, crabs, dolphins, sharks, sea turtles, polychaete worms, coral reef fish and aquarium designs for marine ornamental culture, to name a few. In addition to his scientific research, he has written over 100 articles for various aquarium magazines such as Advanced Aquarist Online Magazine, Freshwater and Marine Aquarium (FAMA) Magazine, Marine Fish and Reef USA Annual, Practical Fishkeeping, and Tropical Fish Hobbyist, and continues to be in demand as a speaker at various marine aquarium societies and conferences.
