Richard has been a reef hobbyist for over 15 years, with his first reef tank, a 90 gallon tank, containing mostly soft corals. The tank evolved into a stony coral tank in the early 1990s and he has primarily maintained small polyp stony corals ever since. In 1995 he began a 300 gallon reef tank, with its photos being featured in numerous hobbyist magazines and included in Mike Paletta’s book "Ultimate Marine Aquariums," which is reviewed in my Product & Book Review section. In 1999 Richard built a 2000 gallon tank, which has also been featured in various magazines.
Richard has also penned many aquarist articles over the last several years, with some appearing in Aquarium Fish, Aquarium Frontiers, Marine Fish and Reef Annual, and SeaScope. He is also a ‘product review’ columnist for Advanced Aquarist and has spoken at several hobbyist societies, MACNA, and the Western Marine conference.
He has also explored various coral reefs around the world, e.g., in Australia, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Papua, New Guinea, Philippines, Palau, Micronesia, as well as Florida and throughout the Caribbean.
