Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Red Sea, and East Africa to the Marquesas and Pitcairn Group, north to Southern Japan, and south to New Caledonia and the southern Great Barrier Reef.

Size: 115 inches (9.7 ft) (287.5 cm (3 m))

Natural Environment: Inhabits coral areas on sloping reef walls at depths between 3 to about 150 feet (1 – 45 m) and stays under rocks and/or in caves during daytime and hunts prey during evening hours when it feeds mainly on smaller fishes and crustaceans.

General Husbandry: Quite drab, having a overall dark brownish body with black spots behind the head and around the gill openings. Not collected for the trade.
