Range: Western Indian Ocean: Gulf of Oman, south coast of Arabian Peninsula, Aldabra, Comoros, Madagascar, coast of Africa from Kenya to Durban, South Africa.

Size: 30 inches (85 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits shallow protected turbid coastal reefs and is found at depths between 1 – 50 feet (1 – 15 m) where it feeds on small fishes and crustaceans.

General Husbandry: Adults are usually greyish black with small white spots or brown with white spots. Not collected for the trade.
