Species Name: Monanchora barbadensis

Authority: Hechtel, 1969

Common Name: Red Encrusting Sponge

Range: Western Atlantic Ocean: Caribbean

Natural Environment: Inhabits rubble on shallow and fairly deep reef flats

General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 68 to 79°F (20 - 26°C). Another encrusting sponge sometimes seen on live rock. Rarely seen in the trade and shown for identification purpose. Not sustainable in aquaria.

Note: May be Monanchora arbuscula (Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864)

Taxonomy: Subphylum Cellularia, Class Demospongiae, Subclass Ceractinomorpha, Order: Poecilosclerida, Suborder Myxillina
