Species Name: Apolemichthys arcuatus

Authority: (Gray, 1831)

Common Name: Bandit Angelfish

Range: Hawaiian Islands, Midway, and possibly the Pitcairn Group

Size: 7 inches -17 cm

Natural Environment: Inhabits rocky ledges and caves and is a deeper water species, 40 to 150 feet (12 – 45 m)

General Husbandry: Prefer a temperature of 72 - 80°F (22 – 27°C) and natural diet consists mainly of sponges and tunicates making them difficult to maintain in captivity. Rarely collected, yet extremely easy to capture, but probably better left in the wild. This is a fish that should not be purchased unless it is seen to be eating before purchase! Will often become shy in the aquarium and needs lots of rocky hiding places.

Aquarium Suitability: Difficult to feed, shy, and probably a species better left in the wild unless very exact environmental conditions are adhered to.
