Family Galatheidae

Allogalathea elegans

(Adams & White, 1848)

Crinoid Squat Lobster

Likely Reef Tank Suitable

Likely Fish-Only Tank Suitable

Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Red Sea to Micronesia.

Size: 1 inch (2 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits coastal reefs and seen in association with crinoid hosts/feather stars.

General Husbandry: Rarely seen in the trade!

A small lobster-like crab that usually inhabits feather stars.

Will scavenge meaty foods, therefore some excess, possibly frozen meaty foods, must be left in the aquarium for it to survive.

Much guesswork would be involved in maintaining these creatures, therefore probably best left in the wild!
