Ostreobium

Ostreobium species

Not Reef Tank Suitable

Not Suitable for Fish-Only Tank

Aquarium Suitability: Infects the skeletons of stony corals. Brought about by excesses of nutrients, e.g., phosphate and various nitrogen containing compounds such as nitrite, nitrate and ammonium. Once stony coral skeletons become infected, the skeleton material becomes soft, the coral will waste away, and there is no known way to halt the spread of this infectious alga. And never purchase any coral specimens if this alga is present on their skeleton material!

Potential Control Species: NONE!
