Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Red Sea and East Africa north to Southern Japan and Hawaii, south to Lord Howe Island. Eastern Pacific Ocean: Gulf of California to Panama and the Galapagos Islands.

Size: 16 inches (40 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits sandy bottoms in protected lagoons and usually found at depths between 3 – 300 feet (1 – 90 m) where it feeds where it feeds on hard shelled prey.

General Husbandry: Not normally collected for the trade.

Those in this genus need very deep sand beds to dive into if frightened, or they will injure themselves greatly!
