Common Name: Hooded Carpetshark

Range: Western Central Pacific Ocean: New Guinea, Indonesia

Size: 30 inches - 75 cm

Natural Environment: Inhabits inshore coral reefs, tidepools, and tidal flats

General Husbandry: These sharks belong in the Order Orectolobiformes, Family Hemiscylliidae and have a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 27°C). Their natural diet consists of small invertebrate found in rubble areas. Requires a meaty diet and fed two to three times per week. Provide cave and ledge hiding areas. Require a large, well-filtered and well-oxygenated system with few environment obstructions. Cannot be treated with heavy metal solutions such as copper. Fresh seafood, such as shrimp, fish flesh, crab, scallops and freshwater mollies are welcomed. Do not house with large triggerfishes, angelfishes, wrasses, and pufferfishes as they can pick on the shark and cause skin and/or eye damage.

Aquarium Suitability: Large fish-only aquariums/needing their own private environment/special tankmates
